TCU hosts lecture on effective responses in times of disaster

Fort Worth, TX

10/17/2007

TCU is hosting a lecture, "Calming the Storm: Effective Responses in Times of Disaster" on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni Center. The luncheon event is free and open to the public; seating is limited.

The lecture, presented by the Tarrant Area Community of Churches, is in partnership with Faith and Life @ TCU, TCU's Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Volunteer Center of North Texas, Catholic Charities, and Amerigroup Community Care.

The lecture will focus on building effective communication and collaboration among local congregations and established response organizations, so they are all ready to work together when potential natural or human-initiated disaster strikes.

There will also be an overview of the path of disaster response, how it happens, who does what, when, and why. Attendees will also learn more about typical needs during a disaster, how the American Red Cross pre-certifies churches as shelters, and how clergy are credentialed to care pastorally for victims. During the seminar, there will be networking among congregations on how to prepare and be effective and collaborative responders.
