Dr. Lindy Crawford is an associate professor of Special Education within the College of Education and was recently appointed the Ann Jones Endowed Chair in Special Education.

Crawford engages in research on the validity of large-scale assessments of students with and without disabilities, use of curriculum-based measures in the classroom and effective math interventions.

“I am honored to be selected as the Ann Jones Chair in Special Education for the College of Education at TCU,” said Crawford. “This position highlights the value that TCU places on children and youth, and in particular, students with disabilities. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues in the College and across campus to research and refine methods of instruction and assessment for PK-12 students. Colleges of Education play a critical role in ensuring teachers, principals and counselors are prepared to enrich the lives of students; I am fortunate that I can contribute to this process.”

She is currently the principal investigator on a development grant funded by the Institute of Education Sciences (U.S. Department of Education) to research the feasibility and functionality of an online supplemental math curriculum for middle school students with math learning disabilities. Participants for this project include students at Starpoint School, one of two laboratory schools for students with disabilities in the College of Education at TCU.

Crawford is also investigating the effect of “active electronic support tools,” such as hyperlinks and audio support on students’ math performance. This project is in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Technology in Education at the University of Oregon.

Crawford has received funding through the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs, Office of Innovation and Improvement and Institute of Education Sciences. Her research, conducted through the Alice Neeley Special Education Research and Service Institute, has also been funded by the National Academy of Education and the Colorado Department of Education. Some of her publications appear in the Journal of Special Education, Exceptional Children, Remedial and Special Education, and the Journal of Learning Disabilities.
