Fort Worth, TX

5/29/2008

Meghana Mathew, who graduated in May 2008, was awarded three of TCU’s highest honors: Distinguished Student, Senior Legacy and University Mission awards. She was lauded for her activities, academics and devotion to the TCU mission.

The Distinguished Student Award
was presented to Meghana by TCU alumni for her outstanding academics and service to the University. She was chosen by a committee of TCU National Alumni Board members from 35 students nominated by faculty and staff. Each student submitted a résumé and a short essay on the impact of giving back to the community. Meghana, who is from Bahrain, is the first international student to be honored with the award.

The University Mission Award
honored Meghana’s and accomplishments embodying the mission of the University: To educate individuals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community. The award was created in 2002 to honor TCU’s ninth Chancellor, Michael R. Ferrari, who through his leadership charged the University with creating a new mission for the future.

The Senior Legacy Award r
ecognized Meghana for demonstrating leadership through active involvement in academic or co-curricular departments, student organizations and programs, and/or community agencies. She demonstrated all the criteria for the award: good academic and social standing with the University; positively contributing in a meaningful and intentional way to the quality of life at TCU and/or in the larger community; actively sought opportunities to be part of the TCU learning community through academic and co-curricular avenues; and was a visible model of what it means to be an ethical leader, responsible citizen, and/or global citizen.

“It is such an honor to receive these three awards from TCU,” Meghana said. “I owe thanks to the TCU community for all the support and guidance that everyone provides. People here truly take the time to help students succeed and excel in every way. My leadership on campus and off is definitely the result of a group effort of the people in the TCU community.”
