University receives first Community Partnership Award from YMCA

The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth honored TCU with its inaugural Community Partnership Award, presented April 29 during the organization's 118th annual meeting. About 300 attended the event, held at Ashton Depot downtown. Chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr. acknowledged the citation in a brief videotaped message. Vice Chancellor Don Mills accepted the award in person.

The honor has been created to recognize an organization or corporation which, through collaborative efforts with the YMCA, has significantly impacted the YMCA and the community.TCU's outreach to the "Y" includes the TCU Student-Y, founded in 2003, which has steadily built relationships with community organizations and schools while offering leadership opportunities for TCU students. The entity has adopted five YMCA branches around the city and works to provide appropriate programming for underprivileged high school students.
Other areas of the campus also have been involved in YMCA events: The Center for Civic Literacy, Extended Education, Early Childhood Music Program, TCU Leaps, Real World Agency and Athletics, to name a few.
