Fort Worth, TX

Full-time MBA students from across the country will compete in the first annual Neeley Sales & Marketing Strategy Competition sponsored by Sony Electronics. Cash prizes total $12,000. Schools represented to date are: Harvard, Emory, Tulane, Pepperdine, Rice, Chicago, Georgia Tech, Ohio, Thunderbird, UC Berkeley, Texas A&M, Rochester, Indiana, Baylor and TCU. Interested MBA students can register until March 12 at www.neeleyMBAbusinesscase.com.

The MBA students will work together on randomly assigned teams of four, each from a different school. Senior Sony sales and marketing executives will participate as judges.

“This is a valuable opportunity for MBA students to gain direct experience with and invaluable insight into a major global retailer, Sony Electronics,” said Ed Riefenstahl, Director of Experiential Learning at the Neeley School. “We are privileged to have a company as successful and well-known as Sony as a sponsor for our case competition.”

The two-day event begins with an on-campus welcome dinner and reception Friday evening, March 28, where the teams will be chosen. The case competition takes place Saturday, March 29, at the Neeley School. Students will be given a marketing and strategy case involving a Sony product. Each team will have five hours to work on the case and 10 minutes to present their recommendations to Sony executives.

Winners will be announced at an awards dinner Saturday evening. Prizes are $6,000 for Grand Prize, $4,000 for second and $2,000 for third. A prize will also be awarded for Most Creative Solution.

“Case competitions are an excellent means for MBA students to apply what they have learned in class, along with their own skills and experience, to a real opportunity or challenge,” said Bill Cron, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs at Neeley.
