TCU celebrated its third annual breast cancer awareness event

Fort Worth, TX

Since its inception in 2004, TCU’s Frogs for the Cure breast cancer awareness event has helped to promote knowledge in the community and to raise funds in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tarrant County.

This year, the Frogs for the Cure event will take place at the TCU vs. New Mexico football game on Saturday, Nov. 3 starting at 4:30 p.m., and will offer a tailgate for breast cancer survivors and their families, and a halftime show featuring messages from seven individuals affected by breast cancer.

“What is most compelling about Frogs for the Cure is that breast cancer seems to affect almost everyone,” said Ann Louden, chair of the Frogs for the Cure committee and the chancellor's associate for external relations.

Rene Syler, a nationally known news anchor and author, is one of seven individuals who will share his or her stories with the audience at halftime via video messages. The individuals, all connected to the TCU community, will discuss the impact breast cancer has had on their lives.

Also at halftime, more than 1,000 individuals, breast cancer survivors and members of TCU student groups, will take the field for a pink balloon release.

“From the student who has lost a parent, to a staff member going through chemotherapy, to a faculty member who has lost a breast to cancer, we don’t have to look far to find those whose lives are forever changed,” Louden said.

Since last spring, a committee of almost 40 TCU staff, faculty, students, alumni and community supporters, many of whom are breast cancer survivors, have been working together to plan the third annual Frogs for the Cure.

With their help, TCU has raised more than $25,000 for breast cancer awareness over the last two years by partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure in sponsoring the Frogs for the Cure event. This year, TCU hopes to surpass that amount.

Fans attending the game can contribute by wearing TCU Frogs for the Cure T-shirts, to “Pink Out” the stadium, as a portion of T-shirt sales and game tickets purchased at www.gofrogs.com will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tarrant County.

Five dollars from every ticket sold on www.gofrogs.com using the promo code “KOMEN” and $3 from T-shirts purchased at the TCU bookstore or online at www.gofrogs.com will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tarrant County.
