Paxton Motheral was the first person to receive a degree in Ranch Management from TCU. He received the degree at the December Commencement ceremony.

The certificate program has been in existence since 1956, but it was not until 50 years later that a degree program was available. The unique program teaches the business of ranching through hands on experience and classroom training. The four-year degree program consists of taking two years of the University’s core requirements, one year in the business school (earning a minor in business) and the successful completion of the nine-month Ranch Management certificate program.

Students on this track will earn a BS in Ranch Management, as well as a certificate of Ranch Management. The professors in the certificate program use their collective experience to teach more applied techniques than theory, thereby better preparing its students to successfully enter the industry.  Thus a student earning a BS in Ranch Management will be well equipped to manage a ranch and the land in any region of the world.
