University to hold Town Hall meeting to discuss legislation regarding weapons on campus

Fort Worth, TX

4/14/2011

The University will host a Town Hall meeting April 26 at noon in the BLUU Auditorium to discuss a piece of legislation that will affect the campus community.

The Texas Legislature is considering a bill that would allow individuals with a concealed handgun license to carry concealed weapons on college campuses. TCU administration is concerned that this would pose a safety risk to campus. As it currently stands, HouseBill 750 contains an opt-out clause, allowing private institutions to be exempt from the law if they choose.

All faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend the Town Hall meeting to receive more information and to voice opinions. After the Town Hall meeting, TCU administrators will offer a recommendation to the TCU Board of Trustees who will determine TCU’s official stance on the issue.
