Five nights of exhilarating music will greet audiences during the two-week run of the ninth annual Mimir Chamber Music Festival, July 6-14, on the TCU campus.

Joining the performers and faculty this season is violist Che-Yen Chen, winner of the 2003 William Primrose Viola Competition and "President prize" of the 2003 Lionel Tertis Viola Competition. Additionally, artists/faculty members from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Institute of Music, TCU School of Music and Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Gold Medalist José Feghali, will wow students and audiences.

Public performances are July 6, 8, 9, 11 and 14 at TCU’s PepsiCo Recital Hall, located in the Walsh Center at the southwest corner of W. Cantey Street and S. University Drive. Performances will include works by Beethoven, Mozart, Bartok, Brahms and Rachmaninoff to name a few.

But Mimir is more than performances by great artists. It’s a training ground for the artists of tomorrow.

Each summer, a collection of premier chamber musicians and select students gather at TCU. While Dallas and Fort Worth audiences delight in the challenging and diverse concerts performed by the world-renowned faculty, the students experience two of the most inspiring weeks of their careers.

Woven among the five faculty performances are three hours a day of coaching, master classes on solo and orchestral repertoire, and public performing opportunities. Drawn from around the world, Mimir's professionals and students make North Texas a musical destination each July.

Artists teaching and performing at this year’s festival are:

  • Violinists - Nathan Cole, Chicago Symphony; Stephen Rose, The Cleveland Orchestra; Akiko Tarumoto, Chicago Symphony; Curt Thompson, TCU School of Music

  • Celloists - Jesus Castro-Balbi, soloist, TCU School of Music; Brant Taylor, Chicago Symphony
