TCU Cellofest March 10-12 brings world-class talent to campus

Three days of masterclasses that end with three evenings of concert performances will focus the campus on “all things cello” this weekend. From Thursday, March 10, to Saturday, March 12, musicians and students are converging for the third TCU Cellofest.

The schedule of public events (Admission is $20/$15/$10, free with TCU ID):

 

Thursday, March 10
7 p.m., Ed Landreth Auditorium — OVERTURE, featuring Jesús Castro-Balbi, Ralph Kirshbaum, TCU Cello Ensemble, TCU Symphony Orchestra, TCU Wind Symphony, Bobby Francis, and Germán Gutiérrez. Music by Rodriguez, Rossini, Schumann, and Vivaldi.

Friday, March 11
3 p.m., PepsiCo Recital Hall — SHOWCASE RECITAL, featuring Dmitri Atapine and Patrick Jee, with pianists Gloria Lin and Cheng Zhang. Music by Bloch, Brahms, Cassado, Glazunov, Martinu, Piazolla, and Tchaikovsky.
7 p.m., Ed Landreth Auditorium — CELLO SPECTACULAR, featuring Christopher Adkins, Jesús Castro-Balbi, Norman Fischer, Elizabeth Morrow, Eugene Osadchy, Carlos Prieto, Rhonda Rider, Brinton Smith, and Hai Zheng with the 440 Alliance Cello Quartet, and pianists Jeanne Kierman, Gloria Lin, Anastasia Markina, and Kiyoshi Tamagawa. Works by Beethoven, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Crumb, Dvorak, Elizondo, Faure, Harvey, Medtner, Rachmaninov, and Tcherepnin.
 
Saturday, March 12
7 p.m., Ed Landreth Auditorium — CONCERTANDO, featuring Dmitri Atapine, Patrick Jee, Carlos Prieto, Haydn Concerto Competition Winners, TCU Cellofest Cello Choir, TCU Chamber Ensemble, Jesús Castro-Balbi, Germán Gutiérrez, Ralph Kirshbaum. Music by Barber, Haydn, Jobim, Marco, Villa-Lobos, and Vivaldi.
