After nearly 25 years as the TCU/Cliburn Piano Institute, the celebrated Fort Worth event for gifted young talents, teachers, amateurs and audiences devoted to hearing live, classical music, is undergoing a change of identity. Its new name is PianoTexas International Academy & Festival.

PianoTexas is set for June 2-25, 2006 on the TCU campus and will feature almost daily performances and master classes that are open to the public (visit www.pianotexas.org for a calendar of events). An international lineup of guest artists will comprise this year’s faculty and most will also be featured in a recital as part of the Distinguished Artist Series. The schedule:

Friday, June 2, 8 p.m., PepsiCo Recital Hall – Brazilian-born Cliburn gold medalist José Feghali presents Schubert’s Sonata in G major, D. 894-Op. 78, Villa-Lobos; Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4 and Schumann’s Symphonic Etudes Op. 13.

Tuesday, June 6, 8 p.m., PepsiCo Recital – Yakov Kasman, silver medalist in the 1997 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, performs Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons, Op. 37b, and Rachmaninoff’s Sonata No. 1 in D minor, Op. 28.

Friday, June 9, 8 p.m., PepsiCo Recital Hall - Eminent Polish pianist, Piotr Paleczny, winner of the 8th International Chopin Competition, presents a program of Chopin and Mussorgsky.

Tuesday, June 13, 8 p.m., PepsiCo Recital Hall – Jan Gottlieb Jiracek, a favorite competitor from the 1997 Cliburn Competition, plays Haydn, Schumann, Chopin and Liszt.

Friday, June 16, 8 p.m., PepsiCo Recital Hall – Italian pianist Andrea Bonatta presents an evening of Mozart, with The Enso String Quartet, Gary Whitman on clarinet and Blaise Ferrandino on double bass.

Tuesday, June 20, 8 p.m. PepsiCo Recital Hall – Distinguished American pianist Jeffrey Siegel presents a program of Robert Schumann and engages the audience in a unique, conversational format.

Friday, June 23, 8 p.m. – Cliburn laureate Christopher O’Riley, who also hosts the popular classical music show From the Top on National Public Radio, will perform works by Schumann, Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff.

General admission for each concert is $20, $15 for seniors and music teachers, $10 for students. Individual tickets will be available at the door a half-hour prior to the event. To order in advance, phone 817-257-7456 or e-mail info-pianotexas@tcu.edu.

Sunday, June 11, 8 p.m., Ed Landreth Auditorium – Amateurs Concerto Competition Finals with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. General admission $15.

Sunday, June 18 and June 25, 8 p.m., Ed Landreth Auditorium – Young Artists Concerto Competition Finals with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. General admission $15. Seniors and teachers $10, students $7.50.

Wednesday, June 22, 8 p.m., PepsiCo Recital Hall – American Pianists Association Concert. General admission only $5.
