Megan Malone recently received the EDICUT award, which is given to an early childhood, middle or secondary education major who has demonstrated outstanding academic skills, exceptional teaching and instructional ability, and a passion for children and the profession.

According to Dr. Becky Taylor, associate dean of undergraduate studies for the College of Education, the award recipient was chosen following a faculty review of many outstanding candidates.

“I am so thrilled to be recognized by the College of Education,” said Malone. “There are so many amazing students within the program who I know are exceptional and I feel so blessed to be recognized for my work.”

Malone decided at the age of 7 to become a teacher and has “been playing teacher ever since.” One of her favorite classes at TCU was the Creative Thinking & Play class because she believes in the importance of children enjoying school and having fun while learning. The class helped her develop tools to make her classroom more creative and exciting for her future students.

Malone’s goal upon graduation is to become an elementary school teacher: “to be the type of teacher children love seeing each day, to make learning fun and exciting, to help change lives, to guide each one of [her] future students to do something great.” She also wishes to continue to be a role model for her little sister.

Malone loves spending time with her family, going to sporting events – especially TCU football games – and is looking forward to traveling to Europe over the summer following her graduation in May.
