Elizabeth Gillaspy, assistant professor of ballet & modern dance at TCU, has won the National Dance Association's College/University National Dance Educator of the Year Award for 2006.* The announcement came at the organization's annual conference April 25-27 in Salt Lake City, UT, with six nominees from around the nation in contention for this honor.

She had earlier this year taken the state award for Texas and the southern district award for a 13-state region, given by the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance which is affiliated with NDA.

Gillaspy received her ballet training at North Carolina School of the Arts and American Ballet Theatre School in New York, and has a master of fine arts in ballet from TCU, as well as a secondary certificate in dance for the State of Texas. She founded the first high school performing arts dance program in the Fort Worth Independent School District.
