Lectures, workshops expected to draw 200 clerics to annual Ministers Week

Diana Butler Bass, author and independent scholar of American religion and culture, will be among the high-profile speakers at the annual Ministers Week Feb. 7-10 at University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive. The event is co-sponsored by TCU and Brite Divinity School.

Her talk is titled “The End of Religion? Looking for Signs of Awakening” and will be from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at UCC.  Ms. Bass has written seven books, including the bestseller Christianity for the Rest of Us (2006), named one of the best religion books of the year by Publishers Weekly and Christian Century.

Other speakers and topics during the event include:
•    John W. Kinney, dean of the School of Theology at Virginia Union University.
•    Tim Hessel-Robinson (“Prayer and Praise in a Time of Ecological Crisis”), professor of Spiritual Disciplines and Resources at Brite Divinity School
•    Richard H. Lowery (“Genesis and Human Rights”), affiliate professor of Hebrew Bible at Phillips Theological Seminary
•    Loren Baxter (“Preaching and Teaching with Technology”), director of instructional technology at Brite Divinity School
•    Lance Pape (“Learning to Read: Preaching as a Serious Vocation in Literacy”), assistant professor of Homiletics at Brite Divinity School
