Bill Moncrief receives highest award from Chancellor

Fort Worth, TX

9/10/2010

Bill Moncrief, Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Charles F and Alann P Bedford Professor of International Business, received a standing ovation from the crowd of students, faculty and staff at the University Convocation and Founders’ Celebration, September 9, when receiving the  Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Achievement as Creative Teacher-Scholar.

“Being at TCU for my entire career has been a joy and I thank God daily for the blessing of serving in such a great University,” Moncrief said later. He has been teaching at TCU for 28 years. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our students and then see them develop into great business leaders and begin their families. I’ve had about a dozen students who are children of former students. What an incredible opportunity to teach two generations of Frogs!”

With his open-door policy,  his easy way with students, and the fact that he knows almost all of the more than 1,600 students in the Neeley School by name, Moncrief  is the perfect example of TCU’s teacher-scholar model.

At the ceremony, Chancellor Boschini praised TCU’s teacher-scholar model, which fosters relationships between students and faculty, as one of the primary reasons for TCU’s ongoing success and recognition as an “Up and Coming National University” in U.S. News & World Report’s recent college ranking.

This is not Moncrief’s first award at TCU. At Honors Convocation in April, he received the University Honors Professor of the Year Award for teaching honors classes and spearheading the development of the Neeley Fellows honors program. He also was voted Neeley Alumni Professor of the Year in 2009.

Originally from Mississippi, Moncrief received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Mississippi (otherwise known as Ole Miss), as well as an MBA degree. He received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University.
