The Dept. of Art Education in the TCU School of Art will host a lecture titled "Nurturing the Artist Within" from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24 in Auditorium 141 of the J.M. Moudy Bldg North, 2805 S. University Drive. Guest speaker is Peter Clothier, author of PERSIST: In Praise of the Creative Spirit in a World Gone Mad with Commerce.

The event is free and open to the public.

The book Persist, as well as this lecture, address the predicament of creative people of all kinds — artists, writers, actors, musicians, dancers — in a cultural environment in which success is most often measured in commercial terms, and where it is increasingly difficult for even the most talented to get a hearing. In this context, the author develops specific strategies for building a disciplined creative practice and learning how to apply them to creating a life in art that will survive the vicissitudes of an art world dominated by market concerns.
