Branding expert to speak on campus Oct. 27

TCU Ad Association and the American Marketing Association will welcome speaker Erin Patton, one of the nation’s leading authorities on branding, sports marketing and pop culture, on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Dee J. Kelly Alumni Center. A book signing will follow Patton’s presentation. This event is free and open to the public. The first 50 attendees will receive a free copy of Patton’s recently published book, Under the Influence: Tracing the Hip-Hop Generation’s Impact of Brands, Sports, & Pop Culture.

Erin Patton, the man behind Nike’s JORDAN brand, is one of the nation’s leading authorities on branding, sports marketing and pop culture. Patton was hand-picked by Michael Jordan as the chief architect for the JORDAN brand and he engineered its successful launch in 1997. In 2005, he was tapped by Converse to lead the brand’s repositioning effort and endorsement relationship with NBA All-Star Dwayne Wade and in 2006 he spearheaded NBA star Stephon Marbury’s Starbury launch and partnership with national retailer Steve & Barry’s. Patton has received numerous industry accolades, among them the Edison Award from the American Marketing Association, the United Nations Honorable Mention, and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).
