TCU announces $20,000 grant from Bank of America Foundation for university program

Fort Worth, TX

12/1/2008

TCU received a $20,000 grant from the Bank of America Foundation to benefit the Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic, a part of the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at TCU. With the help of the Bank of America grant, the Clinic will have the ability to expand its services and provide more care to the surrounding community.

“At Bank of America, we believe healthy communities are wonderful places to live and do business,” said Mike Pavell, president for Bank of America in Fort Worth and a TCU alumnus. “We applaud TCU and the Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic, and we are proud to support their efforts in removing the financial barriers that often exist between our residents and the opportunity to receive quality healthcare."

The Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic offers a wide variety of services to persons in Fort Worth and the surrounding area. Services are offered to English- and Spanish-speaking individuals, and include speech/language evaluations and therapy, audiological evaluations, hearing aid evaluations, aural habilitation, speech and hearing screening programs, information and referral.

“The Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic is here to change lives,” said Dr. Christopher Watts, chair of the department of communication sciences and disorders at TCU. “We change lives by helping people learn or relearn speech and language skills, helping to diagnose hearing problems which cause communication deficits, or helping people learn to communicate with different means so that they can function more efficiently in their environment.”

“Bank of America realizes that not everyone in our community has access, due to their particular financial situation, to the services we provide, and have opened up the opportunity for them to get the help they so dearly need,” he continued. “We are happy that Bank of America recognizes the value of the services that we provide, especially to the underserved in our community.”
