TCU percussion students in the spotlight at international convention in Austin Nov. 7-8

After a performance tour in the Central Texas area, TCU School of Music students will take a star turn at the 33rd annual Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Austin over the Nov. 7 - 8 weekend. The TCU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Brian West of the TCU music faculty, is one of only three college groups selected to perform there in a worldwide competition held earlier this year.

The group will take the stage of the Austin Convention Center for a College Showcase Concert at 10 a.m. Saturday. Their program includes a premiere of Eric Ewazen's commissioned work Symphony for Percussion and Diabolic Variations, guest conducted by Richard Gipson, director of the TCU School of Music.

The TCU Drumline will perform in the Convention Center at 3 p.m. Friday, during the Marching Percussion Festival portion of the PASIC convention.

An estimated 7,000 drummers and percussionists from around the world are expected to attend the Austin gathering which will feature more than 130 events on 13 stages with leading artists in the percussion community.
