Photojournalism gallery opens new exhibit

TCU's Schieffer School of Journalism is partnering with the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) Region 8 to present "NPPA Night at TCU." The Schieffer School will host an opening reception at 6 p.m. for the photojournalism gallery's latest exhibit, "La Ciudad de Fort Worth" by Alyssa Banta, an award-winning documentary photojournalist. At 7 p.m., Ms. Banta will give a presentation about her work. Afterwards, NPPA Region 8 will present a panel discussion about the future of the still image in journalism during the age of digital convergence.

Panelists for this discussion will be:
  • Award-winning documentary photojournalist Alyssa Banta
  • Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Hart, currently the director of operations for Noofangle Media, and former director of online content at Belo Corporation
  • Pulitzer Prize winner Irwin Thompson, deputy director of photography for The Dallas Morning News
  • Ian McVea, director of photography for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram
  • Jerry Ward from Canon USA Professional Products Marketing Division


The discussion will probe what the future holds for the use of the still image in the new media paradigm of visual journalism. The event is scheduled to conclude after 9 p.m.

Refreshments will be served during the opening reception; door prizes and local photography vendor information will be available following the NPPA Night. The reception and NPPA Night is free and open to the public.
